Kiambu women rep, Ann Nyokabi, on Tuesday awarded incentive and certificate of acknowledgement to all District Education Officers (DEO) whose district performed well in the 2014 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
Nyokabi said that the incentives were meant to appreciate the DEOs for the job well done by schools in their respective districts.
Ruiru, Thika, Kikuyu and Gatundu districts were the best sub counties in Kiambu County.
Nyokabi challenged other sub counties to up their game.
She said that the county government will work closely with schools to boost education in the region.
Nyokabi also expressed her concerns on the reports that some public schools were extorting money from the parents.
She directed officers in charge of education in those areas to recheck on the matter.
Nyokabi said that the county government will launch a crack down on the schools extorting money and the whip will start falling from the top officials in the sub county before it reaches grass root level.
She urged parents not to hesitate from reporting such cases.
Nyokabi further revealed that plans are underway by the county government to establish new primary schools in Kiganjo and Kiandutu.
The two slums have a big population and it is claimed that most children in the area do not attend school.
