Speaking to journalists in Kiambu Town on Sunday, Nyokabi said that the ongoing doctor’s strike has hampered providing specialised treatment to ailing patients across the country.

Nyokabi noted that patients are suffering because they cannot access specialised treatment.

“Striking doctors should accept the offer given to them by the government and resume services to save patients from the agony they are going through” she added.

Nyokabi said that as much as doctors have a right to strike and demand better pay, they have a duty to protect life.

She urged doctors to resume work even as negotiations into their pay hike demands continue.

Last week doctors turned down a 40 percent pay hike that the government had offered after doctors officials met with President Uhuru Kenyatta in Mombasa.

The doctor’s officials say that they won’t accept anything and that what they want is full implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) they signed with the government in 2013.

Doctor’s  across the country have been on strike since December 5 paralysing service delivery in public hospitals.

Meanwhile, Governor William Kabogo has said that the county will not pay striking doctors their December salaries because they have not rendered any services to locals.

He said the decision not to pay the striking doctors was made by the Council of Governors (COG).
