Kiambu Women Representative Annah Nyokabi has called for an overhaul of security apparatus in the county over alleged rising criminal activities.
Nyokabi alleges that crime is escalating in some parts of the county at the watch of the police.
On Wednesday, the Kiambu Women leader claimed that some police are abetting crime.
She said that locals are not guaranteed of their security and are living in fear of being attacked by criminal gangs. The Women Representative cited Limuru, Ting’ang’a, Kikuyu, Lari and Gatundu as crime hot-spots.
“Police should pull up their efforts and guarantee the safety of residents,” she said on Wednesday in Kiambu town. Nyokabi said that police have the responsibility to ensure that every citizen is safe.
There have been concerns over deteriorating security in some areas with locals urging the police to streamline security.
County commissioner Alex Nkoyo during a briefing with journalists at his Kiambu office said that security will be streamlined.
On Wednesday last week, Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery held a meeting with county security officials and politicians over claims that outlawed militia groups were resurfacing.
Nkaissery warned politicians using criminal gangs to cause fear of dire consequences. He assured locals of their safety ahead of the 2017 elections.
