Kiambu women rep Anne Nyokabi has called on Kikuyu residents to stand firm against defilement and rape cases in the region as corruption has taken over justice for victims.
Speaking on Tuesday during her campaign against defilement and rape, Nyokabi said that these cases have been on the rise and some perpetrators go unpunished. She said most women and young girls live in fear as those who violated them are still free in the society.
She said that corruption has got into the justice system where chiefs and some police officers receive bribes and do away with such cases.
“It’s time to say enough is enough. When young girls are defiled by old men, women raped and offenders go unpunished, that is not justice. We have to stand united and ensure offenders are taken to the police,” said Nyokabi.
She said that some offenders are known to the community.
“I want to call on the Nnyumba Kumi Initiative to be part of this campaign and help identify such offenders. Women and youth groups have been campaigning against this,” said Nyokabi.
