Speaking while issuing cheques to various women, youth and disabled persons groups in lower Kabete, Kiambu County on Monday, Gatheca acclaimed the national government for its commitment to empowering Kenyans through such initiatives.

‘I am honored to mention that so far Sh19.115 million, National Government Affirmative Action Development Funds have successfully been disbursed to 189 groups through the office of the Women Rep Kiambu County," Gatheca said.

The beneficiary groups come from the 12 sub counties within Kiambu County.

"From Women to the youth and the elderly, these groups are the initial beneficiaries after Women Reps received the funds formerly known as Affirmative Action Development Fund," she added.

Gatheca said that the beneficiary groups were formerly vetted and were only awarded through merit as per required by the funds regulations. She revealed that the groups were required to submit their proposals to her office and were only vetted nationally.

She beseeched more groups to apply for the funds through submissal of proposals indicating the projects of their interest for the second disbursement of the funds.

"The disbursement is also inclusive of Kiambu Women Sacco that has over 5,000 active members," she added.

She attributed the increase in the funds allocation to women leadership and government’s dedication to furthering girl empowerment.
