The demand by the council of governors to have them control the counties security has met stiff criticism.

Kisumu Senator Anyang Nyongo’s Personal Assistant Babu Karan has opposed the governors’ demands saying that they are baseless and profess lack of direction in the county bosses.

Karan alleged that county chiefs have failed to manage the health sector which was devolved after stiff demands from the Isaac Ruto-led council.

“Governors cannot claim that they can handle the security of our counties yet the lesser delicate health sector has not been managed well by them. Devolution is still very young and we need to start with the devolved sectors and units first before demanding for more from the national government, “said Karan.

The Kisumu Senator’s Aide said that security cannot be devolved as the police and other security organs still report to the president.

He challenged the governors to come up with county metropolitan police to work hand-in-hand with the national police service in beefing up security in the counties.

“So long as the police still report to the head of state, then the dream of the governors is farfetched and not valid by all means. Let them start with what they have first before asking for more,”advised Karan.
