Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o was on Monday angered by remarks made by Uasin Gishu Women Rep Gladys Shollei during a political debate.
In her remarks, Shollei stated that it was time for political leaders to stop whining about the problems facing IEBC but rather look for solutions to the problems.
The 'whining' sentiments angered Nyong'o who engaged Shollei in a heated back and forth confrontation. According to Nyong'o, concerns raised about IEBC were valid and needed immediate attention.
"We have raised valid concerns about IEBC on course to the October elections. Therefore, it is inappropriate for mheshimiwa (Shollei) to say we are whining about IEBC. In fact, these problems were experienced during the August elections and were even pointed out by the Supreme Court," said Nyong'o.
In the debate, Nyong'o highlighted resetting of the KIEMS kits, re-tendering for the printing of ballot papers, restructuring of IEBC personnel among other issues as the reasons mandatory for the carrying out of free, fair, transparent and credible elections come October 17th.
"What has been highlighted from the resetting of KIEMS kits, re-tendering for the printing of ballot papers all the way to transmission of results are important aspects that will ensure both Jubilee and NASA are satisfied with the outcome of the elections. Anything devoid of these will lead to an election crisis in the country," added Nyong'o.
Both Nyong'o and Shollei appeared on NTV's AmLive show where the Women Rep apologized for her remarks.
