Kisumu Senator who is also the Senate Public Accounts and Investments Committee chairman Prof Anyang Nyong’o has offered a public apology to Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero following a scuffle mid this month with Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi.
Prof Nyong’o said on his behalf as the chairman of teh committee, he took the opportunity to offer an apology.
“Let me take this opportunity as the chair of PAC to humbly ask you to take my apology over what transpired when you appeared before my committee,” he said.
He said the incident that occurred during a PAC meeting was unfortunate and needs to be condemned.
Speaking on Saturday in Kisumu during the burial of the daughter to Tom Odongo who is an executive committee member in Nairobi County, Nyong’o promised to seek for time to offer another apology in the Senate.
“I will also ask the Senate to give me some time to offer more apologies on the floor of the Senate” he said
The Senator said there is need to put in place measures to guarantee the security of the committee members and those being summoned to appear before it.
He further announced that Senate Speaker Ekwe Ethuro will also make a statement over the matter once he jets back into the country from an official trip to Russia.
Nyong’o assured governors that they will be handled in a humane way and will not allow what transpired to reoccur.
“I want to assure our governors to continue appearing before the committee, let them not be jolted with what happened. It was an isolated case,” he said.
Kidero who was present noted that governors appearing before PAC should be treated with dignity and not subjected to embarrassment.
He said he is ready to honour the summonses because he stands for governance and accountability.
“I m happy you are the chairman, we know your capability due to your past work and I am going to tell my fellow governors not to stop appearing before your committee,” he said.
