Kisumu County Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o has been asked to reign in on county officials and leaders out to derail his development agenda.

A cross-section of leaders drawn from the business community and civil societies said the incessant squabbles at the county government were costly since no meaningful development has been realized since the new government was formed.

Led by activist Audi Ogada they accused county leaders of engaging in public exchanges instead of focusing on development.

Speaking on Tuesday during a press conference in Kisumu, Ogada gave the leaders a one-week ultimatum to sort out their differences.

The differences between Kisumu County Governor, Kisumu Senator Fred Outa, Deputy Governor Dr. Mathews Owili and County Assembly Speaker Onyango Oloo played out last week with the leaders pointing fingers at each other.

Kisumu Senator Fred Outa and County Assembly Speaker Onyango Oloo accused the Deputy Governor Dr. Mathews Owili of sabotaging Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o who is out of the country on treatment.

The deputy governor, they claimed was derailing the governor’s development agenda at the same time plotting to replace him.

However, Dr. Owili refuted the claims saying he was firmly behind the governor and all was well at the county government.

Ogada said there was need for the leaders to sit together and address their concerns in order to fulfill the pledges they made to the electorate.

“There are certain promises the governor made among them relocation of Kachok dumpsite and installation of a City management board within the first 100 days in office but to date nothing has been done due to the ongoing squabbles,” he said.

He asked the governor to exercise his powers and tame leaders and county officials implicated in corruption so as to fulfill his pledges.

If the concerns are not addressed, he said a demonstration shall be staged to the county headquarters to oust the officials from office.
