Kisumu senator Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o has criticised top Jubilee leadership for snubbing the former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, during the 54th Madaraka commemoration.
President Uhuru Kenytta and his deputy William Ruto failed to recognise the Nasa flag bearer during the event which was held Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Kabiru-ini Stadium, Nyeri county.
Speaking after being cleared by IEBC to contest for the Kisumu gubernatorial seat, Nyong’o asked Uhuru and his deputy to respect leaders irrespective of their political affiliations.
“We hope that what was witnessed in Nyeri and the Coast will not be Jubilee’s attitude during the electioneering period,” said Nyong’o.
He further noted that national events should not be turned into political rallies and added that every Kenyan has the right to attend the functions.
“On Madaraka Day, all Kenyans are expected to participate in the celebration. It was unfortunate that the government decided to snub the NASA flag bearer and other leaders in the coalition by not allowing them to speak.”
