Professor Peter Anyang Nyong’o’s fate as Kisumu County’s second governor will be known next month, when the Kisumu high court delivers a ruling on a case challenging his election.

In a notice to members of the public on Friday, Kisumu high court deputy registrar Pauline Mbulikah said that the final verdict will be delivered on January 03, 2018 at the courts premises.

The case was filed by former Kisumu governor Jack Ranguma who maintains that Nyong’o was not validly elected as Kisumu County governor during the August 08, 2017 general elections.

The former governor wants the court to nullify Nyong’o’s victory on account that his election was marred by massive irregularities.

Nyong’o was elected on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket while Ranguma was defending the governor’s seat as an independent candidate after losing to Nyong’o during hotly contested ODM party nominations.

Professor Anyang Nyong’o is the immediate former Kisumu County senator. The senate seat is now occupied by former Nyando Member of Parliament (Mp) Fred Otieno Outa.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Nyong’o the winner of Kisumu County governor’s race after garnering more than 250, 000 votes.

Jack Ranguma got slightly less than 200, 000 votes, while other candidates got less that 10, 000 votes.
