Professor Anyang' Nyong'o officially took over the reigns of Kisumu County after being sworn in on Monday in an event held at Kenyatta Stadium, Kisumu.
The former Senator takes over the leadership of a county dogged with various problems, key among them being perennial water shortage and divisive clan politics.
Political Analyst Dismas Mokua is backing the former Cabinet Minister to deliver on his campaign pledges.
However, he believes that can only happen if the Makerere University-trained political scientist brings unity to a county which is defined by its divisive nature.
"He should unite people if he wants to succeed. Kisumu is defined by clan politics. So, when he starts allocating resources, let no one feel excluded. Let exclusivity be his guiding principle," Mokua said during an interview on KTN.
Mokua's sentiment was backed by Prof Oeri Tumbo who said that clan politics is well entrenched in Kisumu and that Nyong'o's first task will be to bring to an end the vice.
"His main challenge is to foster development and bring to an end clan politics," he said.
The swearing in ceremony was skipped by former Governor Jack Ranguma who has vowed to challenge Prof Nyongo's win in court.
