Kisumu governor Anyang Nyong'o has dismissed claims made by Deputy President William Ruto alleging that the opposition used militia groups to sabotage the repeat presidential election.
According to Nyong'o, a militia group is one that uses military gear in its operations and he believes that the only militia in the country is the Mungiki.
He alleged that the Mungiki dressed in military uniform attacked protestors in Kisumu during demonstrations with a purpose to kill, maim and loot property.
"NASA has no militia group. The people demonstrating in the streets were only youths that were advocating for a particular course. The only militia group is the Mungiki that wore the military uniform to attack people," reiterated Nyong'o.
The governor further called on people to stop defending the system even if it is oppressing the people.
"The people defending an oppressive system now may be faced with conscience issues in the future when the same system is not in power," added Nyong'o.
Governor Nyong'o made his remarks during a political debate on NTV's Am Live show on Monday.
