Kisumu County first lady Mama Dorothy Nyong'o alongside Director Special Programmes Madam Ruth Odinga on Tuesday officiated clutches donation event at Jomo Kenyatta Sports ground.The event saw a number of disabled issued with the mobility devices to propel their efforts in looking for livelihood.The event according to the founder Crutches for Africa who donated the crutches is aiming to assist aproximately 9000 people within Nyanza Province."This zealous gesture is set to see the lifestyle of people with disabilities change for the better and also control the number of disabled begging in the street," Crutches for Africa founder explained.Addressing the people with disabilities Mama Dorothy Nyong'o mentioned how important it was to take care of the disabled because everybody can be disabled at one point and that's it only at that time you start to appreciate the people with disabilities. She noted that the Governor sympathizes with persons with disability and pointed out how determined he is to ensure that their well being is observed, having been in their shoes before. Madam Ruth Odinga on her part lauded former nominated MCA Caroline Agwanda for initiating the County Disability Bill, which has been adopted by the Kenya Disability Parliamentarians caucus in all the 47 counties. "Kisumu County now has the Persons with Disability Act, which provides for the establishment of a County Disability Board and a County Disability Development Fund.Special donation was made to one Gerald Franklin a 4 year old suffering from celebral palsy who was gifted a special wheelchair to this respect to aid his academic persuit," she said.
