Kisumu senator and gubernatorial aspirant Anyang’ Nyong’o has received support in his gubernatorial bid with just 17 days left to the August 8 polls.
This is after a section of Seme community members and professionals drawn from 27 sub-locations resolved to back his candidacy.
The group further criticised elders from the community who had earlier endorsed Kisumu governor Jack Ranguma’s re-election bid.
A group of over 40 elders from the community on Friday last week endorsed Ranguma’s re-election bid saying he should be given any other term to finish the projects he initiated.
The elders lauded the governor’s administration for starting many projects in the sub-county, something they noted was not witnessed at the time the Kisumu senator was a Member of Parliament.
However, the professionals and other residents led by Jorum Amolo alleged the elders endorsement was paid for and that the elders do not represent the interests of the Seme community.
“We will not allow a few misguided elders to mislead the people of Kisumu,” said Amolo who noted any pronouncement by the community should be announced at their place of authority – Kit Mikayi.
Elijah Adul, a professional from the community, praised Nyong’o for being the architect of devolution. He added that with the billions the county has been receiving, Ranguma has done little for them.
“It should be known that Nyong’o is the architect of devolution and as Seme community members, elders and professionals, we endorse him for the position,” said Adul.
