The National Government is set to construct a new Huduma Center in Kombewa, Seme Sub-county in a bid to step-up access to crucial government services in Kisumu County.
This came to the fore during the weekend when Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o spoke during a burial ceremony in North Seme ward.
Nyong’o revealed that during his trip with President Uhuru Kenyatta to Cuba, the president pledged to see that resources are galvanized and the new Huduma Center facility was set-up.
The governor stated that if implemented, the project will reduce the distance Seme residents traveled to access government services in Kisumu.
So as to entrench proper medical care, Nyong’o urged all residents to acquire NHIF accreditation revealing that the government was in partnership talks with the World Bank so as to implement the Universal Health Care Plan.
“Even if it means selling your chicken to register for NHIF, kindly do it because it's worth it. It will improve how you access medical services,” stated Nyong’o.
The partnership, Nyong’o stated will first be flagged in Kisumu,Nyeri, Isiolo and Machakos counties before being rolled out countrywide.
Nyong'o remained firm that more needed to be done to see that cancer and diabetes patients get fully covered by NHIF.
"It is true that such patients still have to dig in their pockets to access medication despite being subscribers to the national health scheme," said the county boss.
While in Cuba, the county boss stated that two specially trained doctors will be deployed in the four counties and they will be tasked with cushioning the residents from getting malaria.
