As 2017 politics starts to gain momentum, Kisumu Senator Anyang' Nyong'o has accused some MPs for plotting to lock Senators out of the gubernatorial race.
According to Prof Nyong'o, the effort by the MPs is an effort in futility which is not going to succeed considering that the term of the current Parliament will be brought to an end even before all aspirants present their nomination papers to IEBC.
"Someone should inform MPs to stop wasting time. Parliament will be dissolved before people present their papers to the IEBC for various elective positions. So, at this time, we will not be holding Senatorial positions to interfere with the oversight role," said Prof Nyong'o.
This comes at a time when some Senators have declared interested to wrestle for the coveted gubernatorial positions with the incumbent governors, which shows the pride that is associated with the position.
The National Assembly and the Senate have in the past had a frosty relationship with the MPs rejecting majority of the Bills that originated from the Senate on constitutionality grounds, a development that Senators dismiss.
