In a tweet, Nyong'o expressed his gratitude to his legal team and the people of Kisumu for their support.

"My victory in the August 8th, 2017 elections has today been reaffirmed by the appellate court. Special thanks goes to my legal team led by senior counsel @orengo_james ,friends, family and the great people of @KisumuCountyKE for your prayers," Nyong'o posted on his Twitter handle.

In a message shared by Nyongo's communication unit, the Prof noted that; "It's now time to roll our sleeves and get back to work."

The message came just a few minutes after the Kisumu Court of Appeal upheld Nyong'o's win on grounds that it met all the set electoral laws.

In the ruling read by Justice Philip Waki, the appellate court noted that Nyong'o's election was conducted in accordance to the law.

Regarding the discrepancies that arose in various poling stations, the court ruled that the errors discovered in tallying of the polls could not alter the final results.

"It is not in dispute that the third respondent (Nyong'o) was declared winner before all the results were counted and collated but even assuming Ranguma was awarded all the 3,500 votes from the five polling stations, this would not alter the majority will of the Kisumu people which was 115, 164 votes garnered by Prof Nyong'o," said Justice Phillip Waki as quoted by Nation.
