Voters in Kisumu have been urged to remain calm and wait for the final declaration of the general polls.

Kisumu gubernatorial candidate Prof Anyang Nyong’o said on Tuesday evening that it was imperative for the public to allow the IEBC do its work as required by the law.

He faulted the IEBC saying the commission was responsible for the 500 Kisumu voters who were locked out of the general elections since their names were missing from the voters' register.

He accused the IEBC of laxity in implementing the recommendations of KPMG which audited the voters' register.

The voters mainly from Kisumu Central Constituency claimed they had duly registered and wondered why their details were missing.

The outgoing Kisumu Senator said he has instructed his lawyers to institute charges against the electoral body for denying eligible voters a chance to vote.

Nyong'o added that the heavy police presence in Kisumu was a well-choreographed move to disfranchise voters.

He revealed that he has information that the law enforcement officers have been instructed to disrupt tallying at some polling stations in Kisumu to swing the vote in favor of some contenders.

He pointed out Jomo Kenyatta Sports Grounds, Agha Khan Hall, Pan Pieri and Lions tallying centers were among those targeted.

Agents, he said, must remain vigilant and monitor the tallying of results to avoid any rigging.

"This is totally unacceptable. Our security officers must strictly do matters security and not what we are witnessing here," he said.

He urged his supporters to keep an eye on the officers and report to agents whenever they witness any incident.

Kisumu senatorial aspirant Fred Outa asked area residents to remain calm and await the outcome of the election.

He accused the Jubilee government of intimidating voters in the area urging them to desist from any acts of violence.

"They are openly inciting us into violence so that peace in this area is destructed but I urge you to remain calm," he said.

He added that IEBC denied ODM party agents entry into some of the polling stations.

"We know these presiding officers and we are taking them to court for disobeying the law," he said.
