Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang' Nyong'o on Tuesday visited the areas afflicted by flooding in the county.

The Governor had the opportunity to come face to face with the suffering occasioned by this tragedy that is now a national challenge.

Hundreds of families have been rendered homeless and now housed in several rescue centres while many more are marooned in their homes. 

Livestock and crops have seen massive destruction. A combined team of the disaster committee have been on the ground and has been able to deliver food and non food items to about 1000 households but the efforts have still fallen short because of the magnitude of the challenge.

The Governor took the opportunity to send out a special plea to well wishers to come forward and suppliment tye efforts of the participation partners. 

He also assured the residents that he will follow up with the National Government on the construction of the Soin-Koru multi purpose dam that will bring a lasting solution to this perennial flooding problem and address food security.

Nyong'o further instructed the medical team to commence testing for emerging diseases in the affected areas and also distribution of anti malarial drugs.

He promised that mitigation efforts will continue in as much as the situation gets dire by the day.

Accompanying the Governor on this tour were his Deputy Dr Mathew Owili, the Chief of Staff Mr Patrick Ouya, the CEC for Health Dr. Rosemary Obara, the CEC for Water and Environment Mr. Salmon Orimba, the Red Cross Regional Coordinator Madam Hellen Maiyo and several Sub County and Ward Administrators.
