Nyong’o on Thursday said the committee will not take lightly the issue of some governors snubbing the committee's summons.

He said some governors were running away from audit queries. “We have deliberated and decided as a committee not to take lightly the issue of some governors snubbing our summons on audit queries," said the Kisumu Senator.

He said some governors don’t want to account for the public money given to them.

The Kisumu Senator stated that the committee is mandated by the Constitution to summon governors and other holders of public officers to answer to audit queries.

On Wednesday, Meru Governor Peter Munya snubbed the committee’s summons to answer to audit queries.

Munya was expected to appear before the committee but failed to show up, a move that angered the Senate committee members who were kept waiting.

The Meru Governor has, however, been invited to appear before the Nyong’o-led committee on Wednesday next week.

Several governors have snubbed the committee’s summons with a section of them accusing it of being led by malice.

Last month, Munya who is also the Council of Governors (COG) chairman asked governors to appear before the senate committee.

He claimed that the committee was intimidating governors.

The committee however denied claims of intimidation saying that county bosses have no option but to appear before it to account for audit queries.
