Governor Anyang' Nyong'o’s latest announcement on the creation of a cancer Unit in the region has pleased Kisumu residents.
On Thursday, the Governor signed an agreement with Victoria Development Company for the construction of Level 7 Victoria Hospital and Cancer Centre.
According to the Nyong'o, the collaborative initiative will be built on Public Private Partnership arrangement.
Nyong’o noted that discussions have been on-going for a while, adding that the project is expected to commence in about 3 months and completed within 2 years.
The hospital has a 250-bed capacity hospital which comprises General Medicine, Renal Unit, a Cardio centre, a funeral parlour, a doctor’s plaza, a nursing school, and a five-star hotel.
Professor Nyong'o was accompanied by the county Secretary Dr. Onudi Olang’o, Dr. Rosemary Obara the health CEC, the Chief of Staff Mr Patrick Ouya, and Finance executive Mr Nerrry Achar.
Following the announcement, a section of locals thanked Nyong'o for working hard to improve medical services in the region.
"I am pleased with the move to set up a cancer centre in the region. It will save us time and money having to go to outside countries," noted Hellen Olouch.
"We are pleased and hope upon completion it will be functional and not merely a public relations stunt," noted Jeremy Obacho.
