A section of Kisumu county residents on Saturday noted that they were not pleased with Governor Anyang' Nyong'o's meeting with the elders that took place on Friday at his office.
The locals claimed that the elders have become self-seeking individuals and no longer the custodians of the community.
The elders showed their solidarity with Governor Nyong'o and promised their support something some of the locals have felt is not right.
According to the residents, the role of the elders should be criticizing the county government if they went wrong but not ‘eating’ with them from the same plate.
“When you see the elders visiting the governor and working together without any critics then there is a problem with our elders. They have become greedy and as long as you can give them a brown envelop you will win them,” saidTitus Ogema.
Wesley Ogutu noted that the elders where behind Nyongo’s win in the 2017 elections and have started planning on the same ahead of the 2022 elections.
“Nyongo kept the elders close during the 2017 elections and at the look of things he is extending the same into the 2022 elections. We have seen this kind of politics of selfish gains before and I am disappointed with the elders when they keep mum about serious issues involving governance,” a resident explained.
