Kisumu County Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o met stakeholders drawn from different organizations under the Kenya Crops And Dairy Market Systems Development Activity (KCDMSD) umbrella.
KCDMSD is a five year programme that is a food security initiative which aims at increasing agricultural production to reduce poverty and malnutrition.
They discussed myriad of issues affecting horticulture and dairy sectors with intentions of forging the best way of partnering to identify the deserving grantees to be supported through grants in enhancing their businesses.
The five major components that the amalgamation seeks to address include; Have a resilient agricultural market system that is inclusive and competitive, ensure a consistent and sustainable markets, improved policy environment for market systems development, integration of youth and women into agricultural market systems, collaborative action and learning for market systems change and technology adoption.
Governor Nyong’o stressed on the need for good value chain which can only be achieved by identifying ready market for the farmers citing the example of the current sorghum farming program that the EABL has rolled out.
"This will go along way in enhancing food security at the same time providing ready market for the farmers," Nyong'o said on Tuesday.
