Police have been condemned for applying excessive force to disperse Thika’s Madaraka Market demonstrators last weekend, who were opposing high levies by Kiambu County Government.
Speaking in Riabai ACK Church in Kiambu on Sunday, Presidential Adviser on Agricultural Matters, James Nyoro said that the Police’s behaviour was uncalled for.
“We want to be told who authorised the police to go and shoot at unarmed people who were demonstrating to oppose the high levies. Our leaders who joined the people were also beaten up,” said Nyoro.
“I hear that for two weeks now, butchers in Kiambu have not been slaughtering animals because the levy to the County Government is too high and when people talk they are shot at. It is unacceptable,” he added.
Nyoro also asked the faithful to pray for the leaders and be united, seeing that the year started with the President's case having been dropped.
He further urged the residents to continue praying for the country's security, noting that security is pivotal in maintaining peace.
