Appearing before Naivasha senior resident magistrate Peter Gesore, Naivasha National Youth Service (NYS) employee George Oudo was on Friday accused of lying to the court. The court heard that on the July 9 2014, Oudo jointly with others not before court, and having been employed as a paying officer to the said institution, stole Sh11,856,950 from the youth college.

Oudo allegedly reported the theft to NYS commandant Edward Osoro the following day. He said that his office had been broken into by unknown people who disappeared with the money.

However, after the commandant reported the matter to the police, a few suspects were arrested and interrogated but nothing tangible linked them to the theft. This prompted the officers to further interrogate Oudo who, it later on emerged, had allegedly given false information to the commandant.

Oudo was allegedly complicit in committing the crime.

The accused was released on a cash bail of Sh4 million.

The case will continue on August 11.
