Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa has responded to Raila Odinga’s suggestion that the government should use the National Youth Service (NYS) money to pay teachers, saying such move is not possible.
This comes after Odinga, who was at a rally in Ndhiwa on Thursday, asked the government to use money set aside for the NYS to pay teachers.
Addressing Kikuyu residents at the matatu terminus on Friday morning, the MP claimed that the Cord leader was against the NYS project, and that is why he always found a way to try convincing Kenyans that the project isn't important.
He further said that the issue of youth development had nothing to do with payment of teachers, adding that the opposition should find better ways to critisize the government, other than using useful projects that benefit Kenyans to condemn the government.
“We all are concerned over the issue of teachers, children are mostly affected in this battle, but I assure you that the government is finding a solution and the solution is not what Odinga suggested yesterday in Ndhiwa,” he said.
“He should not be campaigning on issues that aren't helpful and rather join the government to work and move the country forward,” said Ichung'wa.
