Nakuru youth who had their services temporarily stopped when the National Youth Service empowerment programme was suspended can now breathe easy as President Uhuru Kenyatta on , relaunched the programme with a warning that all officials charged with its implementation will be held liable for the loss of any money or resources.

Speaking in Kisii County  on Thursday, the President said the programme was relaunched with strong mechanisms for detecting and preventing theft at all levels.

He said in the event of lose of funds, it is not only the heads of ministries or departments who will be targeted. The President cited procurement officers as some of those who will not be spared.

“We will not kill a programme because of a few individuals. Please, procurement officers, for your sake and your families’ sake, do not steal from the program,” said the Head of State.

The re-launch happened across the country in all the NYS  intervention areas. Nakuru Town East Constituency launch took place at the Bondeni Menengai Social Hall at 10am.

However, on his part  the Regional Commander for the mid-Rift representative Senior Superintendent, Peter Ngala during the programme launch in Nakuru Town East Cohorts, told the youth that the government is committed to empowering them and that the re-launch not only marks the end of the waiting that they had to do but the beginning of a great future for the youth.

“Today we have come to re-launch the programme which at stalled due to the challenges it had faced but rest assured ladies and gentlemen that NYS is now well equipped in terms of equipment,” Superintendent Ngala said.

“We are stronger and better ready to empower one youth at a time,” he continued.

Senior Superintendent Ngala who was accompanied with local leaders proceeded to Msalabaa, Nakuru County where he re-launched the programme.
