Members of NYS youth program also known as ‘Kazi Kwa Vijana’ members in Bomariba ward, Bonchari constituency, Kisii County have blamed officials for crippled operations in the region.

The members led by George Kebati, Bernard Nyamwaka and Oroti Omboye on Saturday speaking at Kasarani trading center said the officials are the reason why the program was suspended in the ward.

Kebati said the program secretary Ronald Moenga and Esther Ondieki, the treasurer mismanaged funds something that led to the suspension of the program.

“I was enrolled into the program during the 1st phase that was done in last year but since others were enrolled in the 2nd phase that was corrupt this year, the officials failed to supervise work well, misused money leading to the suspension of the program in Bomariba ward. We are calling on the area MP Hon. John Oyioka to intervene and help us continue with work and officials sent home,” he said.

Nyamwaka noted that they were not paid for 3 months they worked just because the officials failed to follow up the payment.

He said many youths who had enrolled in the program are suffering in the villages drinking alcohol.

Oroti added that they have hopes that starting January 2018, they will resume work and the officials will not be allowed to lead the group.

“We can’t allow corrupt officials to lead the group. New officials should be appointed to guide us and follow up our payment in case the government fails to pay us after giving our services,” Oroti stated.
