The Kiandutu National Youth Service (NYS), Youth Empowerment Programme has been relaunched with a call on the 2,380 beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunity to improve their lives.
Presiding over the relaunch on Tuesday, NYS Senior Deputy Director Sam Michuki said that changes at NYS and improvement of financial and fleet management systems were some of the changes effected to safeguard the project.
"We are confident that the measures the government and NYS have taken regarding governance, management and financial systems will ensure total success of the programme and guarantee the empowering of our youths," said Michuki.
He added that all payments will now be made electronically to seal loopholes that encouraged corrupt practices before.
"All cohorts are now registered electronically through a biometric system that helps us keep a proper inventory. All their payments will henceforth be channeled through an electronic card dubbed huduma card," he added.
Michuki noted that the 2380 cohorts will work half day and attend financial management classes in the remaining part of the day so as to learn tips on how to run a business successfully.
He also encouraged the beneficiaries to engage in income generating activities with the 30% remittances that the government saved for them through their constituency Saccos.
