The 47 suspects including Public Service Principal Secretary Lillian Omollo were freed on an Sh5 million bond with a surety of Sh2 million to secure temporary freedom.

According to the High Court judge Hedwig Ong'udi the 47 suspects were released after the prosecution team failed to give convincing reasons as to why the suspects should continue to remain in remand.

On June 5th, Kenyans had mixed reactions after Judge Douglas Ogoti ruled that the 47 will not be granted bail leading to an outcry from legal minds that the verdict was set to become a bad precedent for future cases.

“The economic offense having deep-rooted conspiracies and involving a huge loss of public funds needs to be viewed seriously and considered as grave offences affecting the economy of the country as a whole, and thereby posing serious threats to the financial health of the country. And in my opinion and finding can lead to anarchy, threat to peace and threat to the national security,” Justice Ogoti ruled.
