Adaptation of the 'Nyumba kumi initiative' by Rongai residents has seen a major drop in the number of reported crime, area OCPD has said.

Speaking in his office at the Rongai Police Post on Wednesday, Rongai OCPD Joseph Mwamburi said the initiative had proved a milestone in the fight against local crime in villages and other residential areas.

Mwamburi noted that through ‘Nyumba kumi’, a couple of gangs had been unearthed which he says has improved the relationship between residents and law enforcers.

“Ever since our residents realised the importance of 'Nyumba kumi', our work has been smooth and significantly successful,” he said.

According to the OCPD, other than making arrests, a number of criminals had surrendered their weapons to the police saying that they already have recovered two guns among other weapons.

“We have come to realise that most of our young people engage in crime due to an irresponsible society. They want to use force to lead a life that is practically not theirs,” Mwamburi said.

He applauded the efforts of local chiefs and their assistants had put in to help fight illicit brew in the area saying that Rongai was one of the safest place to be in Nakuru County.
