This, he says, has resulted in decreased insecurity in the area.

Speaking from his office on Tuesday, Mutune Maweu said since the implementation of community policing by residents, cases concerning insecurity have significantly gone down.

“Kikuyu has recently become a safe place to work from, with the town becoming a 24-hour economy. No incidences have lately been reported of people being hijacked, robbed or killed, thanks to the initiative,” he said.

Maweu added that community policing has also played a role in bringing law breakers to justice. He said residents have been able to share information with the police contributing to the reduction in cri e rates.

“The officers have in turn been able to act swiftly by responding and attending to the residents’ call in times of need,” he said.

The OCPD further acknowledged Kikuyu as an area which was previously credited for being among the best regions in community policing, by the deputy county commissioner.

He attributed the compliment to the good relations between the police officers and the residents, as well as efficient information channels which have greatly helped in curbing insecurity.

Maweu revealed that landlords in the area have also expressed interest to support the Nyumba Kumi Initiative by registering all tenants.

He said that his office has mounted a vigorous campaign to continue encouraging people to report any suspicious and unlawful activities in the area.
