Residents in the volatile Dujis Constituency in Garissa County have lauded the role that Nyumba Kumi leaders are playing as they strive to prevent further inter-clan feuds in their localities.
The inhabitants say it is now close to a year and the region has never witnessed deadly attacks regarding boundary rows, a fact they have since attributed to the good job done by elders under the Nyumba Kumi initiative that was recently launched by the Interior ministry.
"Here we are now much safer. These people (Nyumba Kumi elders) are doing a commendable job. They have involved various village heads and the warring clans in peace talks and we are now enjoying peace," noted Amina Abdirazak, a widow whose husband was brutally murdered during the 2015 inter-clan wars.
It is only last week that county leadership and several legislators in the expansive Garissa County came together, rallying local elders to help spearhead the ceasefire campaigns.
The region has also in the past, witnessed deadly fights regarding boundary controversies, with local politicians raising a finger on the government for failing to clearly demarcate boundaries.
