Kenya Premier League debutants Nzoia Sugar once more showed their 'giant slayer' instincts by thumping a sorry AFC Leopards 2-0 at their Mumias Complex turf on Wednesday.

Leopards found themselves trailing in the third minute after a defensive lapse gifted Nzoia's Lawrence Juma a glorious chance to lob past an onrushing Gabriel Andika.

The hosts built on the lead and continued to trouble the Leopards defense which was still shaken by the early goal.

Stephen Wakanya should have easily added the second but a hawk-eyed Andika punched his rifling shot back into play as the match proceeded to the first half.

Leopards came back as the more determined side and tried to restore parity but a formidable Nzoia defense would not budge.

Lewis Wanami came close to leveling matters but his curved volley did not trouble Benson Mangala who was having an off-peak in the Nzoia goal.

The elusive goal prompted Leopards' tactician Robert Matano to withdraw Marcellus Ingotsi for Samuel Ndungu on the 69th minute but the changes would not make any amends.

Vincent Oburu sent a rasping shot that missed Nzoia's net by inches as the referee added five extra minutes into the game.

Ingwe soon found themselves on the receiving end after Nzoia caught them unawares with a ferocious counter-attack to score the second through Brian Yakhama who put the match beyond Leopard's reach.

The win pushed Nzoia to seventh on the log with 43 points with Leopards sinking further to 13th just 5 points from the relegation zone.
