The usual nerve-wracking traffic jams were uncharacteristically missing as few commuters using the highway this morning reported using spending 15 minutes from Ruiru to the city centre.

The 'holiday' comes even as Statehouse spokesperson Manoah Esipisu sought to clear rumours that Friday would be a public holiday.

Jerim Onyango a Ruiru resident who owns a jewellery shop in the Central Business District (CBD) said that he decided to stay home due to the possible inconveniences  that might have been caused by US President Barack Obama's visit to Kenya starting later in the day.

" I opted to stay at home today to avoid being caught up in traffic jams and commotion," said the businessman.

Other roads especially Kiambu Road also reported few vehicles. Security has been heightened along Thika Superhighway ahead of Obama's public lecture at Kenyatta University and at the Kasarani Stadium on Sunday. Only invited guests will be allowed into Kasarani.

According to the itinerary, Obama will be leaving later on Sunday.
