Brother to former US President Barrack Obama, Malik Obama has reacted to the police brutality that was witnessed in the country during the election period. The police were reported to have used excessive force to contain a section of the National super Alliance (Nasa) supporters who expressed their displeasure with President Uhuru Kenyatta. As a result, several people including children lost their lives with others sustaining injuries after the police allegedly used live bullets and fired teargas canisters at the opposition supporters during their street protests. Despite an outcry from Nasa leaders and human rights groups, no police have been held responsible for the killings. In a tweet on Saturday, Malik noted that police in Kenya have been exempted from punishment. He further noted that following the police actions, Kenya had been taken back to the old days. "Impunity for Police brutality in Kenya; Back to the good old days. Next detention without trial," said Obama. Malik's sentiments came a day after Uhuru commended the police for work during the election. The president said the officers had discharged their duty “professionally” and “in accordance with the law.”
