Barrack Obama's first cousin Rukia Mboya was buried onThursday night at around 8pm in Kisumu.
Speaking at the Sunni Muslim Cemetery, Pascal Hussein, Mboya's brother told the press that the family had to adhere to all the Islamic doctrines despite the delays that they experienced.
"We had to ensure that we bury her according to the Muslim traditions since she was a Muslim. There were a few delays in the programme and that is what resulted in the delay,” he said.
He added, “My sister succumbed to acute leukaemia while at Nairobi West Hospital having lived with the disease for about one year and a half months. She died in hospital where she had been admitted for a while."
Sheikh Musa presided over the burial ceremony.
Rukia Mboya was the daughter of Zeituni Onyango, Obama's aunt who died in the USA and was buried in Kisumu on the May 6, 2014 in a hurried ceremony under very tight security.
"My sister leaves a 21-year-old daughter who goes by the name of Hadijah Benaziz," Hussein said.
