Local elections observers under the banner the Election Observation Group (Elog) has called on the Director of Public Prosecutions to investigate alleged massive electoral irregularities that marred the just concluded repeat presidential polls.Through their chairperson Regina Opondo, the group said on Wednesday that they could not state whether the elections were free, fair and credible. The group observed that the process was punctuated with electoral malpractices, citing the absence of party agents in polling stations, except for Jubilee Party that was represented in most stations."On the basis of the above challenges, it is not possible to authoritatively state whether IEBC complied with all the directions of the Supreme Court ruling and the law pertaining to elections,” said Opondo, as quoted by the Nation. The group said that the elections, therefore, may not have been conducted in line with the Supreme Court order.Prior to the nullification of the August 8 presidential elections, the Supreme Court directed IEBC to conduct the repeat polls in strict adherence to the Constitution and applicable laws.Other civil right groups in the country among them We the People and Haki Africa have poked holes into the repeat polls.Haki Africa CEO Hussein Khalid on Monday cast doubt on the elections, saying they were marred by massive irregularities.
