Kenya Police Service has been accused of using excessive force against protesters in various parts of the country.
Former South African President Thambo Mbeki, the head of Africa Union Election Observer Mission, censured the conduct of the police in quelling protesters allied to the Opposition alliance, NASA.
"We are deeply concerned by the security situation in the country. The police are supposed to discharge their duties with responsibility as stipulated in the Constitution. They should avoid the use of excessive force on demonstrators," Mbeki said after meeting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i on Wednesday.
His remarks came a day before the repeat presidential election on Thursday in which police are accused of killing three people against anti-election protests in various part of the country.
