The residents have been complaining about jigger infestation in the area over the recent weeks.

Speaking in the area during a jigger treatment exercise, Action for the People NGO, director Peter Ogolla said that simple measures could go a long way in averting jigger infestation.

“Dirty environments has been known to attract jiggers in many places, we should not use our current state as an excuse for not keeping the environment clean, because if we do not, the jiggers menace will be staring in our eyes,” said Ogolla.

He further urged the residents to be sweeping their houses every morning to get rid of dust, which is a breeding ground for jiggers.

“Sweeping houses will keep jiggers at bay, this means that our children will be able to attend school rather than staying at home due to jiggers,” added Ogolla.

Over the recent weeks, households in Obunga have complained over the jigger infestation, and the Kisumu based NGO came to their rescue.

During the Thursday morning exercise, a total of 110 households benefitted, where those infested were treated, while houses were sprayed with chemicals to kill the jiggers.

The most affected were children and women, where a total of over 200 people were treated.
