President Uhuru Kenyatta has been asked to revive the National Youth Service project to help the unemployed youth.
Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura on Sunday asked Uhuru to do what he can to revive the project.
The MP said unemployment among the youth was the greatest challenge in his constituency.
He said most youths have resorted to other forms of getting money which may not be of much help to them.
"Unemployment has caused most youths to turn to criminal activities," said Obura.
The lawmaker added that such activities have landed them into the wrong side of the law.
Obura asked the Head of State to use his powers to ensure that the money which was meant for the project does not get into wrong hands.
In response, Uhuru assured residents of Kisumu that the NYS project will be back as was before.
The two spoke during a fundraiser in aid of the completion of ACK St Stephen’s Cathedral at the Jomo Kenyatta sports ground in Kisumu County.
NYS has of late been in the headlines over corruption allegations from its officials.
