Kisii Senator Chris Obure has raised concern on the Kisii County Government's utilisation of devolved funds channelled to the County from the national government.
Obure absolved himself from blame and instead challenged Kisii County residents to hold Governor James Ongwae accountable for failure to utilise devolved funds for implementation of projects and programmes for the benefit of the electorate on whose votes he rode to power.
Addressing mourners on Friday evening at Nyambunwa village of Bassi Chache Ward in Bobasi Constituency during the burial of three family members who perished in a road accident along the Nyamira-Kericho highway, Obure blasted Ongwae's administration for letting down the Kisii County residents in the utilisation of funds channelled to the County for various development projects meant to transform the area residents' living standards.
"As your Senator, I wish to categorically express my disappointment on the poor performance of the Kisii County Government, since what I am seeing on the ground does not reflect on the billions of shillings I have been fighting at the senate to be channelled to my County by the national government for various development projects in the County," stated Obure.
Obure asked Kisii County residents to absolve him from blame for the poor performance of the County Government and instead hold Ongwae and his Government accountable for not utilising the taxpayers' money accountably to transform the region.
On calls from the crowd that he should prepare to run against Ongwae as Kisii Governor in 2017, Obure reminded the gathering that he was still their Senator and when that time comes he will consult with the electorate and other leaders to find a way forward come 2017.
