Kisii Senator Chris Obure had to take refuge at Nyangusu police station on Monday following hostility from a section of suspected ODM supporters in a rally organized by Jubilee.
Jubilee brigade led by the Kisii governorship hopeful had organized a rally at Nyacheki grounds ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tour scheduled on Tuesday.
But the veteran politician met the wrath of locals who chanted anti-Jubilee slogans making him to periodically cut short his speech.
The former ODM Kisii branch chairman’s woes escalated when angry suspected ODM youths started hurling insults with some pelting stones to his motorcade shortly after the rally, an event which compelled him to take shelter at the police station.
“This is an ODM zone and we cannot tolerate Jubilee. Let them lower prices of Unga,” voices of disgruntled locals could be heard.
Last year, Obure was also chased from Nyacheki ward during a by election when he tried to back OD opponent.
Earlier, Kisii County Jubilee Women Representative flag bearer Doris Aburi said ODM had lost ground in the region.
“If there is someone who thinks that ODM is still here, it’s good to adjust yourself for your own good,” she said.
Obure will be facing Governor James Ongwae alongside South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya and Wiper’s Patrick Lumumba in governorship polls.
