Kisii Senator Chris Obure has denied sensational claims from a section of ODM supporters that he was planning to disrupt a rally scheduled this Saturday at Gusii stadium by opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Mr Odinga is expected to address a youth gathering in the South Nyanza County, few weeks after Mr Obure his former points man from the region decamped to Jubilee Party.
And Obure termed claims circulated in Kisii Alliance Whatsapp group that on Wednesday he was busy with other like-minded leaders planning to disrupt the event as ‘malicious and defamatory’.
“It beats logic that an experienced leader like me can sit down and plan to disrupt a rally whose agenda I am not even aware of. I have been busy executing my legislative roles in the assembly and I can’t recall meeting to discuss somebody,” he said on a phone call.
The former ODM Kisii County chair added: “Raila (Odinga) is my friend and nothing can make me go oppose him. When I moved to Jubilee it doesn’t mean that we are enemies. The claims are not only malicious but also defamatory.”
While he didn’t show any intention of taking legal action against his accusers, he maintained that the area residents had rights to support leaders of their choice.
“I wonder why I have become an enemy when I say I am running for Governor. We still remain friends and I have no ill intention against my friend Odinga,” he said.
