The two former allies are set to take on each other on the gubernatorial contest in 2017 General elections despite having served together as ODM officials.

On Tuesday in a meeting at Kisii town, Obure dismissed claims that he had personal issues with Ongwae and defended his move as ‘democratic’.

“I have never engaged Ongwae in a war of words neither have I ever disrespected him. We have a good relationship and those spreading gossip that we do not see each other are wrong,” he said.

“There are a few administrative things going wrong in the county government and that is what I want to rectify as Governor. Elections are democratic and all of us have equal chances to compete. It’s the electorates who will decide the next County Governor,” added Obure.

Mr Obure will be the key figure that will not be attending Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s meeting in Gusii stadium on Saturday, which comes barely two weeks after he ditched the Orange party.
