Former CIC chairman Charles Nyachae and Kisii Senator Chris Obure will join forces against Kisii Governor James Ongwae in the 2017 gubernatorial race, a senior politician has revealed.
The politician, who spoke on condition anonymity since he is not authorised to speak on behalf of the two, on Monday said talks are in ‘final’ stages to seal a binding deal.
The collaboration between the two will see Mr Obure going for gubernatorial seat with Mr Charles Nyachae as his running mate.
“It’s almost a done deal that Mr Nyachae and Obure will join forces in 2017 elections and plans to make the announcement public are in the final stages,” said the source.
“Obure will be the Governor while Mr Nyachae will be the running mate. We have lobbied for many months now and I am happy that we have finally settled on a dependable deal,” added the politician, who once served as a member of parliament.
According to him, Obure will decamp Orange Democratic Movement for Ford People as opposed to Kanu as predicted earlier by a number of county residents.
“He wanted to use Kanu but we have agreed that he joined Ford People. We also agreed that Obure backs Nyachae in 2022 because it’s a one term deal due to his advanced age. The other county positions will reflect the face of Kisii County,” added the source.
Nyachae had earlier launched his gubernatorial bid while Mr Obure has not declared his interest public despite rumors from a number of county residents, claims which he has vehemently denied in the past.
