Kisii Senator Chris Obure has come under sharp criticism after delegating a Jubilee Senator to take a vote on his behalf over the controversial election laws amendment.
Obure, who skipped Thursday’s special sitting, authorized nominated senator Hosea Ochwang’i to cast Kisii County vote in favour of Jubilee despite being an opposition senator.
Nominated senator Janet Ong’era, who was previously nominated to cast vote on behalf of Obure, accused him of defying the party’s stand.
“I was not notified formally that he had delegated to someone else. This is a total defilement to party democracies and he should coke clear and state his party of choice,” she said.
“He cannot sell Kisii vote against the residents who supported ODM overwhelmingly. He must dearly pay for this insult to the party that sponsored him,” she added.
Obure defected to Jubilee Party after a decade in the Orange party and is expected to wrestle with Kisii Governor James Ongwae of ODM in this year’s elections.
