Kisii Governor James Ongwae and Senator Chris Obure shared a platform for the first time in as many months following their political fallout.
The two were pictured at a peace meeting in the troubled Ikorongo border along other local leaders. The two however avoided political engagements.
Obure, who has since declared Kisii gubernatorial seat interest quit the Orange Democratic Movement Party where he served as Chairperson for over a decade with Ongwae serving as Secretary General.
While Ongwae still remains a trusted lieutenant of opposition leader Raila Odinga, Obure is among top leaders Jubilee campaigns in Gusii region.
In October 2016, rivalry between the duo resurfaced when they supported different candidates in Nyacheki by elections in which ODM’s Naphtali Onkoba carried the day.
According to political pundit Gideon Mamboleo, the two are poised to have a tough contest in 2017 polls.
“Both are experienced in politics so we must expect a tough battled between them. They command big masses and I see animosity between them becoming personal,” he told the reporter on phone.
Obure has been leading a political faction dubbed ‘Obomo Bwomogusii’ while Ongwae leading another faction called ‘mwanyagetinge twensi’.
