On Monday, reports emerged on social media that Obure, Richard Onyonka and Prof Sam Ongeri were planning to decamp to KANU to strengthen their bid to clinch Gubernatorial, Deputy Gubernatorial and senatorial seats respectively.

Obure, who spoke to this writer dismissed the claims as ‘amateurish’, and urged county residents to ignore the rumour.

“I have been addressing this matter for a long time now and I think it’s time to make records clear. The claims that I am decamping ODM are amateurish and my supporters should dismiss them,” he said.

“I have never called any of my advisors and deliberated on the move. The misleading reports are orchestrated by enemies of the Orange party and we must resist the reports as ODM family,” he said.

Obure said he was keen to defend his senatorial seat on an ODM ticket, insisting that he had no intention to run against Ongwae.

“I will defend my Senatorial seat because I am happy to represent our people in Senate. Even if I was to run for gubernatorial seat, I will still battle it out with our Governor from our ODM party. Let us desist from cooking propaganda to sabotage my cordial relationship with Governor Ongwae. I am a founder of ODM and I will always stand with my party,” he added.

Obure is the Kisii County ODM chairperson while Governor James Ongwae is the party’s Secretary General.
